In a significant move to enhance passenger convenience and address concerns over fare discrepancies, the Pune station will soon witness the re-introduction of prepaid rickshaw stands under the new initiative, Rickshaw Mitra. This program aims to tackle the persistent issue of unauthorized fare hikes by ensuring that all rickshaw rides are charged at government-approved metered rates.
For years, the prepaid rickshaw stand at Pune station remained inactive, but the Rickshaw Mitra initiative will bring it back into service, providing a more reliable and regulated rickshaw experience. This initiative also includes features such as trip tracking and mobile phone notifications, aimed particularly at ensuring the safety of passengers, including women.
The registration process for rickshaw drivers has already commenced at the prepaid rickshaw booth. Once operational, the booth will be managed by a collaborative effort involving the Pune Traffic Police’s Joint Passenger Service Organization, the Pune Regional Transport Office, the Railway Department, and the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Dr. Keshav Kshirsagar highlighted that this initiative is a step towards resolving the frequent complaints related to fare overcharging and improving overall passenger safety and service quality.
