During his time on Kapil Sharma’s comedy show, Rohit provided an interesting perspective, noting how wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant implemented a smart strategy to decelerate the game.
“When South Africa needed 30 runs off 30 balls, just before that, there was a small break. Pant used his intelligence to pause the game – he had a knee injury, so he had his knee taped, which helped slow down the game – because the game was fast-paced, and at that moment, all a batter wants is the ball to be bowled quickly. But we had to break the rhythm,” said Sharma.
The pressure was high on the South African team in the final overs. However, India was able to leverage the situation.
“As I was setting the field and talking to bowlers, suddenly I saw Pant fall on the ground. The physiotherapist had arrived and was taping his knee. Klassen was waiting for the match to start again. I am not saying it’s the only reason, but it could be one of them – Pant Sahab used his smarts and things worked out in our favour,” continues Sharma.
The Netflix series also showcased other members of the Indian team that triumphed in the World Cup, such as Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel.
Rohit recalled a critical moment when South Africa needed just 30 runs from 30 balls, with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller well-established at the crease.
Rohit conveyed that the brief interruption in play due to Pant’s injury disrupted South Africa’s momentum, thus granting India a considerable advantage. He acknowledged Pant’s cleverness in that scenario. Rohit pointed out that the game was progressing rapidly, and the pause proved advantageous in breaking the batters’ rhythm.
