India captain Rohit Sharma clarifies his future in cricket, addressing speculation about his retirement from ODIs.
Rohit Sharma has put an end to speculation about his retirement from international cricket. Following India’s T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados on June 29, where they defeated South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final, Sharma announced he would no longer play T20 internationals. This announcement led to rumours about his potential retirement from all forms of white-ball cricket, including ODIs.

In a recent event, when asked about his retirement plans by a member of the audience, Sharma’s response was met with enthusiastic applause. “You’ll see me playing at least for…” he began, clearly indicating his intention to continue his cricketing career for the foreseeable future.
“I don’t look that far ahead,” Rohit said in his reply while making a public appearance at a promotional event in the US. “So clearly you will see me playing at least for a while.”

Rohit Sharma’s departure from T20 cricket comes after an illustrious career in the shortest format, where he amassed 4,231 runs in 159 matches and became the leading run-scorer in T20 internationals. His record includes five centuries, the most by any player in T20I history.
Adding to the clarity, BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently confirmed that Sharma will lead India in the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for February-March next year. This announcement further solidifies Rohit’s ongoing commitment to his role in the Indian cricket team.
