Sam Altman Shares Update: New AI Models Coming This Year, But No GPT-5 Yet
During a recent Q&A, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed that GPT-5 is not launching soon, though OpenAI has other exciting releases planned for later this year. OpenAI’s last big model, GPT-4, launched in March 2023, and since then, users have been looking forward to the next major update.
While GPT-5 won’t be arriving immediately, OpenAI recently launched GPT-4o, an advanced version of GPT-4 with improved text, image, and audio features. Altman explained that creating these models takes a lot of resources and tough decisions on how to allocate computing power.
In addition, OpenAI has introduced a new search feature in ChatGPT, allowing it to compete with search giants Google and Bing. Powered by GPT-4o, this feature automatically activates based on the user’s query or can be started by clicking a new web search icon. Altman highlighted that for many queries, this tool is quicker and simpler, especially for complex information searches.
