Samruddhi Expressway Final Phase Completed: Mumbai-Nagpur Travel Reduced to 8 Hours, Inauguration Soon
Mumbai/Pune: The ambitious Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, a key infrastructure project for Maharashtra, has been fully completed. The 701-kilometer expressway will reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to just 8 hours, down from the earlier 16 hours.
This state-of-the-art 6-lane expressway, which spans a width of 120 meters, is expected to play a pivotal role in the social and economic development of Maharashtra. The section from Nagpur to Igatpuri (625 kilometers) is already operational, while the final stretch of 76 kilometers from Igatpuri to Mumbai is in its last phase of work and is expected to be inaugurated in February.
A Milestone in Maharashtra’s Growth
The Samruddhi Mahamarg, an initiative of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is considered a landmark project. Its completion signifies a transformative step for the state’s development.
Dr. Anilkumar Baliram Gaikwad, Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), played a crucial role in the expressway’s successful construction. Recognized for his exemplary contribution, he has been honored with the “Best Engineer Award” and the “National Pride Award.” His leadership ensured the timely and efficient completion of this mega project.
Advanced Features of the Expressway
The expressway supports speeds of up to 150 km/h and includes 65 flyovers, 24 interchanges, and 6 tunnels. Notably, the 8-kilometer tunnel between Igatpuri and Mumbai is built using cutting-edge German technology and features a full water mist system for fire safety.
To ensure wildlife safety, over 80 structures have been constructed, and the expressway’s vicinity will see the development of 18 smart townships. This project will directly connect 10 districts and indirectly benefit 14 more, significantly boosting trade, industry, and connectivity across the state.
Economic and Environmental Impact
Built at a cost of ₹67,000 crore, the expressway promises substantial time and fuel savings, reducing costs for industrial goods transportation. It has already recorded 1.52 crore vehicle journeys and generated ₹1,100 crore in toll revenue over the past two years.
By linking key regions of Maharashtra, the Samruddhi Expressway is expected to bring revolutionary changes in travel, commerce, and the state’s overall progress. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Deputy CM Fadnavis, this project is poised to be a significant boon for the people of Maharashtra.
