Say Goodbye to Reading Glasses – New Eye Drops Approved to Help You See Up Close
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Vizz, a new eye drop you use once a day to help you see things up close—without reading glasses.
Made by Lenz Therapeutics, Vizz uses a special ingredient called aceclidine. It makes your pupils a little smaller, which creates a “pinhole effect” so your eyes can focus better on nearby objects.
How it works:
Just one drop can start working in about 30 minutes and last for up to 10 hours.
Proven results:
In three big studies (CLARITY 1, 2, and 3), most people’s near vision improved by three lines on a standard eye chart. No serious side effects happened. A few people had mild, short-term problems like slight eye irritation, headache, or dim vision, but these went away quickly. Distance vision stayed normal.
Why it’s important:
Vizz is a simple, non-surgical way to treat presbyopia—a common problem where it’s harder to see things close up as you get older. About 128 million Americans have it, usually starting after age 40.
Vizz should be available in the U.S. by late 2025, starting with free samples at eye doctors’ clinics.
FAQs
Q1. What is presbyopia?
It’s when your eyes can’t focus on nearby things because the lens inside your eye becomes less flexible.
Q2. Why does it happen as we age?
As you get older, the lens in your eye becomes stiffer, so it’s harder to switch focus between faraway and close-up things.
