SCERT Releases PAT 2025 Exam Dates for Classes 1 to 8; Tests to Begin October 10
Pune, September 25, 2025: The Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has announced the schedule for the Primary Assessment Test (PAT) 2025, which will be conducted for students of Classes 1 to 8 on October 10, 11, and 13. The exams will assess three key subjects—Marathi (or the first language of instruction), Mathematics, and English.
The PAT will be compulsory across all government, aided, and semi-aided schools in the state. Unlike last year, when the exams were held in April under a fixed schedule, schools will now have the flexibility to independently plan their half-yearly examinations alongside PAT. The change comes after feedback from schools seeking more autonomy in scheduling.
According to SCERT officials, the PAT aims to function as a diagnostic tool rather than a high-stakes exam. “The objective is to help teachers gauge each student’s learning progress. The tests will include both written and oral components, focusing on comprehension and application skills,” the council clarified. Results will be used solely for remedial or enrichment support, ensuring that no student faces penalties.
Exam duration and marking will vary across grades. Class 2 students will attempt a 60-minute, 30-mark test, while Classes 3 and 4 will have 90-minute papers worth 40 marks. Classes 5 and 6 will face 90-minute, 50-mark exams, and Classes 7 and 8 will write 120-minute tests carrying 60 marks.
School principals have been tasked with ensuring smooth implementation. SCERT emphasised that the PAT is designed to balance statewide uniformity with school-level flexibility, aiming to provide a more student-friendly and meaningful assessment process.
