Selfie Goes Wrong: Wild Elephant Tramples Labourer To Death in Maharashtra
A tragic reminder of the dangers of approaching wildlife.
In Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, a young labourer named Srikant Ramchandra Satre, 23, lost his life while attempting to take a selfie with a wild elephant. Satre and his two friends, who were working on a cable-laying project in the area, decided to visit the Abapur forest to catch a glimpse of the elephant that had recently strayed into the region from the Chittagong and Gadchiroli forests.
The tragic incident unfolded as Satre tried to snap a photo with the elephant in the background. In a sudden charge, the animal attacked, fatally trampling Satre before he could escape. His friends managed to flee, narrowly avoiding the same fate.
Local forest officials had issued warnings about the elephant’s presence just days prior, urging people to exercise caution. A local official reminded the public that approaching wild animals can lead to unpredictable and often fatal outcomes.
This incident underscores the need for responsible behavior around wildlife, especially when taking photos or videos.
