Amid incessant rain, Mumbai faced chaos with overflowing lakes and severe waterlogging.

The heavy rainfall overnight has disrupted some public transport services, causing inconvenience to countless commuters. Amid incessant rain, Mumbai faced chaos with overflowing of four lakes and severe waterlogging. This led to traffic, train service disruption and flight delays.

In response, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert. Following which, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai.

As per reports, waterlogging was reported from several low-lying areas in the city. Several vehicles were stuck in the waterlogged areas on Thursday, July 25. Due to which, over 2,000 traffic personnel were deployed to ease the congestion in the city.

Water logging was also reported at Kalina in Santacruz, Vakola, Sewri, Dadar, Sion, Matunga, Goregaon and Chembur.

Vehicular movement on the Eastern Freeway, Eastern Express highway and the Western Express highway was also hit, causing inconvenience to office-goers.

According to the traffic officials, the Andheri subway, a crucial east-west connector in Mumbai, was closed around noon and the traffic was diverted. 

Meanwhile, the south-bound stretch of the coastal road was closed since 10.30 am due to an accident involving private vehicles. Accordingly, the BEST bus route heading towards Marine Drive was also diverted through Bridge Candy hospital and Babulnath temple, said an officer.

“Traffic Movement Is Slow At Coastal Road Southbound Due To Accident. Movement Is Slow At Freeway Pole No 260 to 280 Southbound Due To Waterlogging,” the Traffic Police wrote on X.

Also on NH 48 near Virar, heavy traffic congestion was witnessed due to water logging and poor quality of roads.

Apart from this, the civic authorities have decided to withdraw the decision to impose a 10% water cut in Mumbai, Thane City, Bhiwandi, and the neighbouring gram panchayats.
