Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor has announced Choti Stree, an upcoming animated film based on her character from the hit horror-comedy franchise Stree. The project will be part of Maddock Films’ expanding horror-comedy universe.

Shraddha made the announcement during the trailer launch of Thamma, Maddock’s new film starring Ayushmann Khurrana. The Mumbai event on Friday was attended by Shraddha, Khurrana, and Maddock Films’ producer Dinesh Vijan.

“Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is coming out with Choti Stree as an animated film, which will release in theatres for all age groups. I think it will be an exciting time for India. It just feels amazing to be a part of this universe,” Shraddha told the audience.

The horror-comedy universe began with Stree (2018), starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Its success paved the way for films like Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya. In 2024, Stree 2 became the biggest Hindi hit of the year, collecting over ₹500 crore worldwide.

Producer Dinesh Vijan revealed that Choti Stree will have a unique storytelling format. “The interesting thing about Choti Stree is the way Amar Kaushik and Niren Bhatt have conceptualised it. The film will end with a scene from Stree 3 — moving from animation to live action — and it will reveal the backstory of Shraddha’s character. It will release six months before Stree 3,” Vijan said.

Meanwhile, Maddock Films is gearing up for the release of Thamma, directed by Munjya filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar. Featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Rashmika Mandanna, the film is slated to hit theatres on October 21, 2025.
