Mumbai: In light of increased security concerns, the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust in Prabhadevi has imposed a ban on offering floral garlands and coconuts at the temple. The decision comes as a precautionary measure amid growing threats and recent developments along the national borders.

Temple treasurer Pawan Kumar Tripathi confirmed the move, stating, “While floral garlands and coconuts will not be allowed, devotees can still offer durva grass. This is part of our current security protocol, prompted by recent events at the border. Siddhivinayak Temple has always been a high-profile target, even during the era of David Headley. Ensuring the safety of devotees remains our top priority.”

The ban is temporary and will be reviewed periodically. This is not the first time such a restriction has been introduced. In 2007, a similar ban was enforced by the government, but it was withdrawn within weeks due to strong opposition from devotees, political parties, and religious groups.

To support the enhanced security measures, the temple has installed two scanning machines to inspect all offerings brought in by worshippers.
