In an unusual turn of events, Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, has found himself at the center of a legal controversy. The Muzaffarpur Consumer Court has issued a notice to Ambani, mandating his presence in court by October 29, following a complaint from a disgruntled Jio customer.
The case revolves around the sudden deactivation of a Jio SIM card. A few months ago, the complainant’s Jio number was abruptly deactivated, despite him being a prime member until May 25, 2025, and regularly recharging his mobile. Seeking redress, the customer approached Jio’s official office, but his complaints fell on deaf ears. Frustrated and feeling wronged, he took the drastic step of filing a lawsuit against Mukesh Ambani and the manager of the Muzaffarpur district office branch through human rights advocate S.K. Jha.
During the hearing, the court acknowledged the customer’s grievances and issued notices to both Ambani and the local Jio manager, compelling their appearance on October 29. The complainant, who has demanded a compensation of 1,030,000 rupees for the financial, mental, and physical distress caused by the deactivation, emphasized the critical impact the incident had on his professional and personal life. “My mobile number is with all the people related to my field of work. The sudden deactivation caused me immense difficulties,” he stated.
