In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics trafficking, an interstate drug smuggling ring operating out of Maharashtra was busted near Hyderabad on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, the Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT), in collaboration with Rajendranagar police, intercepted two suspicious vehicles near Exit 17 of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and arrested seven individuals — six of whom are residents of Pune.

The police confiscated 78 tightly packed bundles of ganja weighing a total of 108 kilograms, with an estimated street value of ₹54 lakh. The narcotics were being transported in two separate cars bound for Pune, after reportedly being sourced from a supplier in Odisha. The smugglers were using the Vishakhapatnam–Hyderabad route to avoid suspicion during transit.

Among the arrested were Prashant Ganesh Pasalkar alias Nana (29), Lata Ganesh Jadhav (40), Sachin Dilip Ranavare (37), Rohan Pandurang Pawar, Rahul Baburao Dhavre (28), and Gaurav Natekar (26) — all hailing from Pune. Another suspect, identified as Pawan Deep, was also taken into custody in connection with the case.

Investigations revealed that the group had been actively involved in narcotics trafficking for the past four years and had already faced legal action for similar offenses in Maharashtra. Their well-organized network had established a supply chain extending from Odisha to Maharashtra, using private vehicles to transport ganja across state borders discreetly.

Both the vehicles and the seized contraband have been secured by authorities, and the suspects have been handed over to the Rajendranagar police for further legal proceedings.
