Pune – 13th Sept, 2025 – Over 150 students from St. Joseph Girls’ and Boys’ School, Khadki, enthusiastically participated in a Nature Walk organized at a Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS). The program, held under the banner of Pune Samwad—a citizen-led movement for environmental protection—aimed to create awareness among the younger generation about the importance of conserving natural and cultural heritage.

The BHS, located at Ganeshkhind behind Pune University near Aundh Road, is a rare green oasis in the city. Unfortunately, the site faces a grave threat, as plans by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) propose the construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) by felling ancient trees and turning the priceless habitat into a dumping ground.

The event also featured vibrant artistic and cultural expressions. Many artists painted in the open green space, drawing inspiration from nature. Musician Swapnil Thakur, known as a “one-man symphony,” conveyed the urgency of saving the environment through his self-composed songs performed with his band. Adding further depth, Ameet Singh and Anub George explained the ecological and cultural importance of the BHS to the young participants.
