Pune, June 4: In a major move to tackle chronic traffic congestion on the Pune-Solapur Highway, the Maharashtra state cabinet has greenlit a ₹5,262 crore project for a six-lane elevated flyover between Hadapsar and Yavat. The elevated corridor aims to provide lasting relief to thousands of daily commuters battling long delays along this rapidly urbanising stretch.

The decision was officially announced via a government resolution issued by PWD Deputy Secretary Pragya Valke. The project will be implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and completed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, meaning users will be required to pay toll once operational.

A Three-Year Deadline

The flyover project is expected to be completed within three years of the issuance of the work order. Simultaneously, the existing Pune-Solapur Highway between Hadapsar and Yavat will be widened to six lanes, enhancing overall traffic capacity and flow.

Officials confirmed that compensation for landowners impacted by the project will be finalized through dialogue and announced prior to land acquisition.

Decongesting Key Bottlenecks

Although a two-tier flyover exists at the Hadapsar bus depot, the worst traffic snarls begin beyond this point—at Manjari Phata, Kadamwak Vasti, Loni Kalbhor, Theur Phata, and Uruli Kanchan. At Uruli Kanchan, traffic descending from the Shindewane Ghat adds further pressure, often leading to gridlock.

With the new elevated corridor extending up to Yavat, nearly all of these choke points are expected to be decongested, drastically improving travel time and road safety for commuters.

Authorities anticipate that once complete, the project will significantly reduce congestion and enhance connectivity on this vital national highway link.
