A 180-foot monument of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj will be honored with Maharashtra’s largest Dhol-Tasha ceremony on September 14, 2025

Pimpri-Chinchwad is set to witness a historic and resounding tribute as the world’s tallest full-length statue of Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, titled the Statue of Hindubhushan, nears completion. Rising 140 feet in height, with a 40-foot pedestal bringing the total structure to 180 feet, the monumental sculpture is being erected at the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s site in Borhadewadi, Moshi.

The project, conceived by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge and built under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, is envisioned as a timeless symbol of valor and sacrifice. Alongside the main statue, the memorial complex—named Shambhu Srishti—will feature a 10-foot statue of Hambirrao Mohite, statues of 16 Maratha sardars and mavlas, bronze murals depicting historical scenes, an open-air theatre, and a holographic presentation hall narrating Sambhaji Maharaj’s extraordinary life.

To honor this towering legacy, a grand drum and tasha ceremony has been announced for Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 3 pm at the Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj International Industrial Exhibition Center in Moshi. The tribute will see the participation of 3,000 dhols, 1,000 tashas, and more than 500 saffron flags, making it Maharashtra’s largest-ever performance of traditional music in honor of Sambhaji Maharaj.

The Hindubhushan Smarak Trust and the Dhol-Tasha Federation, which has preserved this art form through generations, have jointly organized the event. Ganesh Bhujbal, Vice President of the Trust, informed that the ceremony will be a symbolic offering to the saffron flag—an emblem of valor and self-respect—and a salute to the sacrifices made by Sambhaji Maharaj to uphold it.

Further, on October 2, 2025, the sword of the statue will be formally worshipped in a ceremonial ritual of weapon worship (shastra pooja).

Maharashtra has long revered the tradition of Dhol-Tasha performances, which especially capture attention during Ganeshotsav, a state-declared festival. By integrating this tradition with the unveiling of the Statue of Hindubhushan, organizers aim to connect historical valor with cultural pride.

For Shiv-Shambu devotees and Maratha history enthusiasts, the event promises to be more than a tribute—it is a collective expression of heritage, sacrifice, and inspiration. With thousands of drums resounding together, the message of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj will echo far beyond Maharashtra, reaching hearts across the world.
