In the wake of a viral video depicting a boy consuming what was claimed to be dry ice from an exhibition stall in Davangere, Karnataka, and reportedly facing dire consequences, concerns over harmful food trends have come to the forefront.

The clip, showcasing the boy’s distress after consuming a smoky liquid from a counter named ‘Smoke Biscuits’, has sparked discussions about the dangers associated with such practices.

Upon fact-checking, it was revealed that the substance consumed by the child was not dry ice but rather a concoction containing liquid nitrogen. Both liquid nitrogen and dry ice, commonly used as freezing agents in food preparation and preservation, pose serious health risks due to their extremely low temperatures. Liquid nitrogen, in particular, can lead to various adverse reactions in the human body, including irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, stomach aches, and skin allergies.

Nutritionists have highlighted the importance of raising awareness about nutritious and safe food choices, especially among children.

Nutritionist emphasize the need for parents to opt for healthier alternatives to traditional snacks like biscuits, which are often laden with maida and can contribute to health issues such as high cholesterol and obesity.

Instead of conventional snacks, Nutritionists recommend options like 0% maida and gluten-free biscuits, as well as homemade delicacies such as ragi laddoo made from palm sugar, ragi dosa, and ragi kanji. Ragi, known for its numerous health benefits, can be incorporated into various dishes in creative ways to make them appealing to children. Additionally, she suggests including homegrown foods like murukku made from red and brown rice, millet noodles, and native fruits such as banana and mango in one’s diet.

In the event of consuming any potentially harmful substances like smoky liquid, Nutritionist advice individuals to refrain from further consumption and seek medical attention if any adverse reactions occur. It is essential to prioritize food safety and make informed choices to safeguard one’s health and well-being.
