Following a significant number of flight cancellations due to crew shortages, Air India Express, owned by the Tata Group, has announced measures to compensate affected passengers. The airline will provide full refunds or complimentary rescheduling options to customers impacted by the disruptions.

On Wednesday, Air India Express had to cancel more than 80 flights after a portion of the crew reported sick, citing grievances related to alleged mismanagement within the carrier. This protest stemmed from discontent among staff members following the merger with AIX Connect, formerly AirAsia India.

With the summer schedule in effect since late March, the airline aims to operate 360 flights daily. However, over 200 crew members reportedly called in sick, leading to operational disruptions.

Confirming the situation, an Air India spokesperson acknowledged that a portion of the cabin crew reported sick on the night of May 7, resulting in delays and cancellations. The company is actively engaging with the crew to understand the reasons behind the surge in sick leave and has pledged to offer compensation to affected passengers.

In response to passenger complaints on social media platforms, Air India Express expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the sudden flight cancellations.

The airline assured affected passengers that they could either reschedule their flights within the next 7 days or request a full refund through their chat bot, Tia, as part of the service recovery process.
