The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and Goa today. Additionally, an orange alert has been announced for Karnataka, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat. The national capital, Delhi, and its surrounding areas are experiencing thick cloud cover, resulting in reduced visibility in certain locations.
Pune Weather Update
Following heavy rainfall that resulted in the loss of five lives, Pune is preparing for more showers as the IMD has issued an “orange” alert. According to the latest forecast, “heavy rainfall” is expected until tomorrow, with moderate rainfall anticipated until July 31.
Another update highlighted the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall in several areas, with occasional intense spells, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and breezes. These weather conditions are expected to affect Northwest Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, South Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, South Haryana, Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and East Assam over the next three hours.
Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northwest India
The IMD has forecasted “very heavy rainfall” in Uttarakhand on July 26 and 27. Other regions likely to experience “heavy rainfall” include Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand until July 29, as well as Haryana on July 26 and 27, and Punjab on July 27.
Rainfall Forecast for South Peninsular India
According to an IMD press release dated July 25, “Very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka” until July 27, and in North Interior Karnataka on July 26. Additionally, “Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places” on July 26 in Tamil Nadu, on July 29 in Kerala, and on July 28 and 29 in Karnataka.
Rainfall Prediction for East and Northeast India
The IMD has predicted fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across East and Northeast India until July 30.
In Delhi, the IMD has also issued an orange alert, predicting continuous rainfall until July 28. The weather office stated on social media platform X, “A cloud mass is passing through Delhi. Movement is slow, spells of moderate to intense rain may persist during the next 2 hours.”
