Stolen Car From Pune Recovered In Thane, Thanks To GPS Tracker
A stolen car worth Rs 17 lakh was recovered by the Airport police from Mira Road in Thane district, all thanks to a GPS tracker installed in the vehicle. The car, a rental vehicle, was booked by a man from Ahmednagar through an online portal but was not returned on time.
According to Assistant Inspector Chandan Vijay, the GPS tracker helped the police locate the car, which was found abandoned at Mira Road. “We have brought the car back to Pune, but the suspect who took the car on rent was not found,” Vijay said while speaking with media person.
The car owner, Mohammad Makani, had installed the GPS tracker to keep track of the vehicle’s movements. The car was booked for three days, from December 12 to 15, at a rate of Rs 5,000 per day. However, when the suspect failed to return the car, Makani approached the police and lodged a complaint.
An FIR was registered on December 17 under sections of cheating and criminal breach of trust. The police are now investigating the matter and have sent an email to the car rental application to submit the details provided by the suspect and the routes used by him for the purpose of collecting evidence.
The suspect had submitted his Aadhaar and PAN cards on the car rental application, and his Ahmednagar address is being verified by the police. The recovery of the stolen car is a testament to the effectiveness of GPS trackers in preventing vehicle theft and aiding in their recovery.
