Supreme Court Protects Actor Shreyas Talpade from Arrest in Haryana Scam Case
New Delhi, July 21, 2025:
The Supreme Court has given interim protection from arrest to Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade in a case related to a financial scam involving a cooperative society. A bench of Justices B.V. Nagarathna and K.V. Viswanathan also sent a notice to the Haryana Police and others based on Talpade’s request.
The case was filed by Vipul Antil, a 37-year-old resident of Sonepat, Haryana, who named 13 people, including actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath, in his complaint. He claimed that the two actors promoted the Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society Ltd as brand ambassadors, which led people to trust the company and invest money.
According to Murthal ACP Ajeet Singh, the case is mainly against a multi-level marketing company, and the actors were named because their promotions influenced many to invest. He added, “Their exact roles will be investigated.”
The FIR was filed on January 22 under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, related to cheating and breach of trust.
As per the complaint, the society started operating on September 16, 2016, and offered schemes like fixed deposits and recurring deposits. It claimed to be a safe and reliable institution and used heavy advertising to attract investors. The society’s model was based on multi-level marketing, which quickly expanded its customer base.
Initially, the society gave timely returns, but in 2023, it started delaying maturity payments. Officials gave excuses like “system upgrades” to justify delays.
Complainant Vipul Antil said that when investors and agents asked for their money, they were given false promises. Later, society officials stopped responding, and many people lost their savings.
The Supreme Court’s decision offers relief to Talpade for now, while the investigation continues.
