Supriya Sule Urges Unified Drinking Water Strategy For Pune And Merged Villages
PUNE: Following a recent water pipeline burst on Sinhagad Road that disrupted supply, Member of Parliament and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) leader Supriya Sule has called for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to ensure access to potable water across Pune and its extended regions.
On Monday, Sule convened a meeting with officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to address pressing civic concerns affecting the city and its outskirts.
Highlighting the persistent issue of water shortages, especially in newly merged villages under PMC jurisdiction, Sule emphasized the need for an integrated water distribution plan. “Despite being brought under PMC limits, many villages still lack sufficient water supply. Agencies must collaborate and develop a unified plan, using the Khadakwasla reservoir as a central resource,” she stated.
She also voiced concerns about solid waste management, pointing out that garbage collection and disposal remain unresolved in several areas. “Numerous localities continue to struggle with unmanaged waste. Although complaints are being raised regularly, the problems remain unaddressed,” she added.
The meeting focused on finding long-term solutions to civic issues that have persisted despite repeated appeals from residents and representatives.
