Tech enthusiast who couldn't secure a spot in IIT or NIT claims to earn over ₹50 LPA. Find out how
A technology enthusiast who has recently embarked on his YouTube journey shared the highs and lows of his career. His experiences have motivated many others.
Pradeep Kumar Saini shares his journey of not gaining admission to esteemed institutions such as IIT or NIT, ultimately graduating from a Tier-3 college. He reflects on beginning his career with a low-paying job, enduring a three-month stretch of unemployment during the pandemic, and eventually achieving a role that now brings him an income exceeding ₹50 LPA.
He earned his BTech degree from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University in Uttar Pradesh, as stated on his LinkedIn profile. Throughout his career, he has been employed by several companies, such as ShopClues, Paytm, and HealthKart, before becoming a part of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited.
After graduating from a tier-3 college, he faced challenges in securing interviews with several prestigious companies during campus recruitment. Nevertheless, he persevered and ultimately achieved success in his career.
“I failed to get into IIT and even NIT. I struggled to crack top tech companies during off-campus placements. I completed my BTech from a tier-3 college and a tier-2 university. I was unplaced after my BTech. My career began at a small Delhi-based company as a web developer with a salary of Rs 5,400/month in 2008. I spent my first 6 years working for service-based companies,” says his post.
In 2014, at the age of 39, he took a position at a product-based company with an annual salary of Rs 8 LPA. Unfortunately, he was laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic and faced three months of unemployment. After a decade in the IT sector, he achieved a salary of Rs 50 LPA. He subsequently accepted a role as an Engineering Manager at a new firm and, after another ten years in the industry, he is now a Senior Engineering Manager at a prominent media company, where he enjoys creating content on YouTube.
Saini embarked on his journey as a content creator in 2024. He operates a YouTube channel dedicated to sharing tutorials on coding, system design, interview strategies, and career guidance for aspiring software engineers. As of this report, he has amassed close to 5,000 subscribers.
“I never gave up, and continually upskilled myself across various domains. Sticking to a plan, learning from my mistakes, and focusing on continuous improvement were essential. I meticulously tracked every step of my journey—both successes and failures—as well as the lessons learned, using detailed Excel sheets,” he added.
