Thane to Get a Mega Business Hub: 176 Villages to Be Transformed Under Aamne Growth Centre Project
MSRDC to lead ambitious 483 sq km development, connecting Thane to Samruddhi Highway
Thane, once considered a suburb of Mumbai, is rapidly transforming into a major business and infrastructure hub. Following the expansion of the metro network, the city is now set to witness one of Maharashtra’s largest integrated development projects — the Aamne Growth Centre.
The Maharashtra government has approved the establishment of this massive business hub in the Aamne area, which will encompass 176 villages and cover a total area of 483 square kilometres. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been appointed as the Special Planning Authority (SPA) for the project.

A Growth Centre on the Scale of BKC and SEEPZ
The Aamne Growth Centre is envisioned to become a business and innovation hub similar to Nariman Point, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), and SEEPZ in Mumbai. It will integrate industrial, commercial, residential, and recreational facilities, transforming Thane’s periphery into a self-sustaining urban ecosystem.
MSRDC will act as the planning authority for 148 villages in Bhiwandi taluka and 28 villages in Kalyan taluka. Earlier, in September 2024, the corporation was appointed as SPA for 46 villages over 109 sq km in these talukas. The latest approval adds 130 new villages covering 374 sq km under the Angaon Sape Vikas Kendra, expanding the total project area to 483 sq km.
Planned Development and Key Features
The Aamne Growth Centre will include:
- Industrial and logistics parks
- Textile, pharma, biotech, and food processing clusters
- Innovation and IT parks
- Medicity and healthcare hubs
- Sports and recreation zones
- Agricultural and wholesale trade centres
- Residential and commercial complexes
- Theme-based and entertainment parks
The project will follow transit-oriented development (TOD) principles, ensuring seamless connectivity between residential and industrial zones, and reducing dependence on private transport.

Strategic Connectivity
The Aamne Growth Centre will be a crucial junction in Maharashtra’s evolving infrastructure network. It will be directly connected to the Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway), starting from Thane’s Aamne area.
Additionally, the region will benefit from multiple upcoming and existing corridors:
- Proposed Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor
- Delhi–Mumbai Expressway
- National Highway 3 (NH3) and State Highway 83 (SH83)
Future logistics routes will also facilitate freight movement from the proposed Vadhavan Port and JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust), enhancing trade flow and supporting large-scale warehouse and logistics development in the area.
Transforming Thane’s Economic Landscape
With industrial clusters, residential projects, and major infrastructure linkages converging in one region, the Aamne Growth Centre is expected to emerge as one of Maharashtra’s most significant urban growth corridors.
Experts believe the project could ease development pressure on Mumbai, while creating thousands of new jobs and transforming Thane into a multi-sector economic hub for western India.
