The Most Awarded Bollywood Film: Which 2000 Blockbuster Created World Records?
Rakesh Roshan’s 2000 blockbuster remains the most awarded film in history, listed in Limca and Guinness World Records
Some films do not just rule the box office, they etch their names into history. Released in 2000, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai did just that, turning debutant Hrithik Roshan into an overnight sensation, making Ameesha Patel a star, and establishing itself as a global record-holder.
Written, directed, and produced by Rakesh Roshan, the romantic musical not only became the highest-grossing film of the year but also entered the Limca and Guinness World Records for winning the most number of awards—an unprecedented 92 across platforms including Filmfare, IIFA, and Zee Cine Awards.
The film’s soundtrack, with chart-topping hits like Ek Pal Ka Jeena and Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, was equally celebrated, earning the title of the best Bollywood album of 2000. Its blend of story, direction, music, and performances captured the imagination of audiences, cementing its place in Bollywood history.

Made on a budget of ₹10 crore, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai grossed ₹44.28 crore at the Indian box office and ₹67.48 crore worldwide, according to Bollywood Hungama. Its success launched Hrithik Roshan into superstardom, with his debut performance earning comparisons to industry legends.
Reflecting on the milestone at the IIFA green carpet, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan had said, “IIFA came into the industry 25 years ago in 2000. And my son Hrithik Roshan also came in 2000 and with great luck, at the first award function only his film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai won many awards. We are very happy about that. And since then, IIFA has been honouring us quite a few times in these 25 years.”
Even 25 years later, the film continues to enjoy immense popularity, its music still played fondly, and its record for awards unmatched in Indian cinema.
