For the first time in 35 years, the national flag was unfurled in Tral, located in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, as patriotic songs filled the air during the celebration of the 76th Republic Day.
Tral town, once known as a stronghold for terrorists and separatists, echoed with patriotic songs and the chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ as PDP MLA Rafiq Naik participated in the Republic Day celebration alongside nearly 1,000 attendees.
Residents of the South Kashmir town remarked that it might be the first occasion on which the national flag was unfurled at Tral Chowk on Republic Day. The flag was ceremoniously unfurled by an elder, a young person, and a child, representing the unity of different generations and their collective dedication to the country.
The event took place under strict security measures enforced by the Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF, and unfolded smoothly, showcasing the partnership between local communities and the security personnel.
“The sight of people from all walks of life waving the tricolour was a testament to Tral’s transformation and its aspirations for harmony and development. This occasion marks a significant transformation for Tral, a place known for unrest, as it embraces peace, progress, and national integration,” says a security officer present at the occasion.
The tricolour waved majestically against the stunning scenery of snow-covered mountains, representing Tral’s path towards peace, progress, and a renewed commitment to the principles outlined in the Indian Constitution, he stated.
The event was honored by the attendance of Indian Army personnel and hundreds of others, who paid their respects to the Tricolour and sang the national anthem. More than 1,000 people participated, with a vibrant group of youth making up the majority.
