Travelling in this era can be very much comfortable—knowing that we cannot be placed might have something or the other to rely on. But if you think like this, then hold on for a second. Because while hopping across beautiful cities and planning the perfect food shots for your Instagram feed might sound dreamy, there’s one underrated struggle that many Indian travellers—especially vegetarians—often face. And content creator Chetan Goel has hilariously captured this exact reality in one of his recent viral videos.

In a clip that’s now clocked over 2 million views on Instagram, Chetan shares his comically honest take on what it’s like to travel as a vegetarian in Europe. His biggest advice? Never ignore your mom when she insists on packing theplas, ready-to-eat Indian meals, and a mini snack pantry for your international trip.

There’s a common mindset among young travellers that packing homemade food or Indian ready-to-eat meals feels uncool or unnecessary. But as Chetan explains, this assumption quickly falls apart once reality kicks in.

He bluntly says, “Kyunki tum jo soch rahe ho na ki yeh sab lekar jaunga to it is not cool, that is not how you travel. Vegetarian ho to bahar jaake daana ni milega khaane ko.” (You might think carrying your own food is not cool, but the truth is, as a vegetarian, you will not find much to eat outside.)

He hilariously warns fellow travellers about those “too cool” friends who insist they’ll manage by eating out during the trip. But by day five, the hunger kicks in and you’ll hear them say, “Bhai, kuch khane me dede. Bahut bhukh lag rahi hai.” (Bro, give me something to eat. I am really hungry.)

Chetan points out that many vegetarians in Europe end up living off Margherita pizzas or plain burgers that barely satisfy hunger. And while Indian restaurants may sound like a solution, the reality often hits harder—with overpriced menus and disappointing flavours. In his own words, “450 rupaye ka butter naan kaise chabau?” (How am I supposed to chew a 450-rupee butter naan?)

His advice is simple: don’t fall into the trap of over-packing clothes or worrying about what looks “cool.” Pack smart. Load your suitcase with ready-to-eat meals, dry snacks, and comfort food that reminds you of home. In a place where finding proper vegetarian meals can be challenging, your snack stash might just become your travel best friend.

The internet quickly jumped on the relatability wagon. One user commented, “Recently this happened with me on my Vietnam tour… wish you had made this reel earlier!” Another said, “OMG, that Margherita pizza was so correct.”

Someone even jokingly wrote, “Itna sach bhi nahi bolna tha.” (You didn’t have to be that honest.) And for many, the solution on their last trip was simple: “I was drinking juice and smoothies.” So, the next time you start packing for that Europe trip, maybe let your mom win the argument. You’ll thank her when you’re not eating your fifth Margherita in a row.
