TOD Meters Essential For Accurate Power Bills, Says MSEDCL
Pune, July 23, 2025 – Mahavitaran has started providing Time of Day (TOD) electricity meters free of cost to its consumers. Over 4 lakh consumers across Pune Circle have already had these advanced meters installed, ensuring precise and timely electricity billing. Mahavitaran has appealed to consumers to cooperate with the installation process and not fall prey to misleading rumors.
Consumers expect accurate and timely power bills based on their usage. To meet this expectation, Mahavitaran has been adopting advanced technologies to minimize human error and improve efficiency in meter readings. The TOD meters are part of this initiative and come at no cost to the consumers.
These state-of-the-art meters allow users to monitor their electricity usage anytime, anywhere through the “Mahavidyut” mobile app. This eliminates dependency on external personnel for readings, as the data is updated online instantly and accurately. TOD meters are also crucial for enabling day-time power discounts as solar energy generation is higher during the day, making cheaper electricity available to consumers.
Meters Are Postpaid, Not Prepaid
Refuting social media rumors, Mahavitaran clarified that these TOD meters are not prepaid. Consumers will continue to receive monthly postpaid bills as before.
No Increase in Bills – Mahavitaran
There have been isolated cases of opposition to the new meters due to misconceptions that they lead to higher bills. Mahavitaran assured that the bills generated will be accurate and not inflated. Consumers with doubts can visit the meter testing units to verify the accuracy of both old and new meters under identical load conditions.
Sunil Kakade, Chief Engineer of Mahavitaran Pune Circle, advised consumers not to believe in unverified information circulating online.
