Tourist Slams Goa’s ‘Taxi Mafia,’ Calls Thailand & Vietnam Better – Sparks Online Debate
Goa is a place I love to visit every year! But in the last few years, their hotel prices have skyrocketed, says the YouTuber.
Sahil Bhadviya, a former Data Analytics consultant, recently took to X to voice his dissatisfaction with the current state of tourism in Goa. He mentioned that he has enjoyed visiting Goa annually, but has observed a significant increase in hotel prices and the detrimental impact of the taxi mafia on the overall experience and appeal of the destination.
“Goa is a place I love to visit every year! But in the last few years, their hotel prices have skyrocketed. On top of this, their taxi mafia is extremely frustrating. They completely ruin the experience. As compared to Goa, Thailand and Vietnam are much better. You get similar category hotels at less than half the price of Goa. Plus the beaches are better than Goa. Travel within the country is also cheap. So now on – No more Goa trips! I’m not surprised that Goa tourism is down badly. And it can go further down if the government doesn’t take action on taxi mafia,” reads his post.

As compared to Goa, Thailand and Vietnam is much better. You get the similar…
A user contended that Goa is a budget-friendly option, highlighting that flights from Ahmedabad range from ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 per individual, with well-appointed hotels priced at around ₹7,000 per night. In contrast, they pointed out that direct flights to Phuket in Thailand start at over ₹30,000, not including other travel expenses.
Sahil acknowledged that Goa is a more affordable destination for budget travelers; however, he noted that individuals choosing hotels priced between ₹10,000 and ₹20,000 per night may discover that Thailand or Vietnam offer better value, as comparable luxury accommodations in those countries are available for half the price.
A different user echoed Sahil’s perspective, pointing out that Goa is currently facing a significant drop in tourism, especially from international travelers. They attributed this decline not only to the issues with hotels and taxis but also to widespread exploitation throughout the region.
Conversely, another user lightheartedly acknowledged Sahil’s grievances, proposing that such posts contribute to maintaining reasonable prices and manageable crowds in Goa. They offered their own tips for an economical trip to Goa, which involve using Airbnb for cost-effective accommodations and the option to prepare meals, as well as renting a car to circumvent taxi-related challenges.
Several users proposed different destinations in India. One individual suggested Vizag, asserting that it provides an experience comparable to, or even superior to, that of Goa.
