Citing reports that “fake cheese” was discovered in a burger in Maharashtra, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has demanded that the government impose a complete ban on the business operations of the American fast food giant McDonald’s.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs’ Secretary has received a letter from the traders’ body requesting that he act right now.

As per further information from the X handle of Founder of CAIT Praveen Khandelwal “It should be banned across the country. Fake raw material used at Ahmednagar, must be used at all locations. Such MNCs treat India as a market and are least bothered for the health and purity of the food served. We CAIT urge jago grahak jago secretary Rohit Singh to take immediate action.”

CAIT issued a statement which states that in light of this alarming discovery, CAIT urgently calls upon Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India Rohit Kumar Singh and FSSAI to take immediate action to ban McDonald’s operations across the country. McDonald’s operations must end immediately across the country because there is a chance that similar fake raw materials will be used elsewhere, endangering public health.

In response, McDonald’s India has posted on X “Here’s a fact check for you: We use only real, quality cheese in all our products containing cheese. Our commitment to transparency in our ingredients and dedication to providing delicious, high-quality meals to our customers remains unwavering.”
