Puducherry Public Works Department Implements Innovative Solution to Beat the Heat

Vasanth Murugan, by the Instagram handle of “pondydiaries” shared a video showcasing the efforts the Puducherry Public Works Department is putting in gearing up for the arriving scorching summers. The department has installed green screen shelters on the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Salai to provide relief to pedestrians and travellers who are facing adverse effects due to the rise in temperatures.
This initiative has garnered a lot of attention from the masses and people in the comment section are all praises for this.
However, a few people are also arguing that this situation should not have arisen in the first place. They are striving for a permanent solution — which is planting more trees. This will in turn benefit the ecosystem as well as save expenditure. Trees not only provide shade and help cool down urban spaces but also aid in improving air quality. Long-term solutions and sustainability are the need of the hour. At present, the entire nation is gripped with heatwave with temperatures reaching as high as 46 degrees c. Several parts of the country are experiencing a surge in day time as well as night time temperatures.
