Focus on inspection, action, and execution as key principles to streamline Pune’s traffic issues

Maharashtra Minister Chandrakant Patil held a high-level meeting on Friday to address the growing traffic congestion in Pune’s Kothrud area. The minister directed officials to implement an AI-powered challan system and increase CCTV surveillance as part of a broader strategy to ease traffic flow.

The meeting, held at Patil’s residence, included Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner Himmat Jadhav, PMC Road Department’s Aniruddha Pawaskar, Anti-Encroachment Department’s Sandeep Khalate, BJP Pune City General Secretary Puneet Joshi, and other officials. Patil emphasized a three-point approach: inspection, action, and execution.

To tackle daily traffic snarls, Patil called for the appointment of 50 traffic wardens and identification of 50 congestion hotspots across the Kothrud region. The proposed AI-based challan system is expected to enhance real-time enforcement and reduce manual intervention in traffic rule violations.
