Abhinav and Amit Agarwal were en route to Mathura for Janmashtami shopping when their car rammed into a trolley; police suspect brake failure due to bottle obstruction.

A bizarre and heartbreaking road accident claimed the lives of two traders from Meerut on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway near Ghaziabad. The deceased, Abhinav Agarwal and Amit Agarwal, were close friends and businessmen, on their way to Mathura for Janmashtami shopping when tragedy struck.

According to Palwal Police, the incident occurred on Monday evening. A call was received at Chandhat Police Station reporting a WagonR car that had collided with a stationary trolley from behind. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered that the vehicle had embedded itself deep into the trolley, requiring considerable effort to retrieve the bodies.

Both victims were residents of Meerut. Amit Agarwal, who owned a Puja Bhandara shop, had planned the trip to procure religious items ahead of the festive season. However, investigators believe that a seemingly innocuous object, a water bottle may have led to the fatal crash.

During a post-accident inspection, officers found a water bottle lodged under the driver’s brake pedal. It is suspected that the bottle rolled underfoot while the car was in motion, preventing the driver from applying the brakes. This led the vehicle, which was reportedly traveling at high speed, to ram directly into the trolley with immense force.

Police have not ruled out excessive speed as a contributing factor. The impact was so severe that over half of the car’s structure was crushed under the rear end of the trolley.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of how small oversights can lead to devastating consequences on the road. The authorities have urged all drivers to keep the footwell area of their vehicles clear and ensure that loose objects are properly secured before driving.
