"Pyaar, Dhoka Aur Maut": Man Ends Life on Railway Tracks, Woman Booked for Abetment
A student from the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIM-B) tragically lost his life after falling from the second floor of his hostel, according to police reports on Monday.
Nilay Kailashbhai Patel, originally from Surat, marked his 29th birthday with friends on Saturday. After enjoying cake in a friend’s room shortly after midnight, he returned to his own room. However, he was discovered lying in the hostel courtyard lawn around 6:30 am on Sunday, according to reports.
A medical team quickly arrived at the scene and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). When he failed to respond, they transported him to a hospital on Bannerghatta Road, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police reported that security personnel noticed him and quickly transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
It is likely that Nilay may have accidentally fallen from the second-floor balcony while returning to his room after the birthday celebration.
The police have recorded a case of suspicious death, and an investigation is currently underway.
“It is with profound sadness that IIM Bangalore shares the news of the untimely passing of our PGP 2023-25 student,” says a post by IIM-B on X.
The postmortem report is still being awaited to ascertain the cause of death.
“However, Patel’s hostelmates claimed they didn’t hear any noise. There is no official complaint about his death. His parents, who live in Gujarat, have been alerted about his death, and we are waiting for their arrival. Based on their complaint, we will register a case accordingly and investigate further,” says the police.
There was no suicide note or any signs suggesting that Patel was facing difficulties that would lead him to take such a drastic action, according to the officer. Patel, who had a limited circle of friends at college, visited one of their rooms after being invited to a birthday celebration. His friends informed the police that they marked the occasion by cutting a cake around midnight. After the cake was cut, Patel returned to his room on the second floor, and his friends stated they have no knowledge of what transpired afterward.
