The incident in Maval village, situated 58 km from Pune, involved two buffaloes owned by Sudam Rambhau Waje. Tragically, the buffaloes died when they encountered an exposed wire from the solar plant while returning from grazing in the mountains to their shed around 5:30 am on Wednesday.

Nilesh Garade from the Wildlife Rescue Team in Maval expressed, “The villagers in this area rely heavily on agriculture and livestock for their livelihood. Many impoverished individuals in the village do not even own agricultural land, so their main source of income comes from livestock. Unfortunately, a villager lost two buffaloes when they came into contact with a live wire from the solar panels. This incident has been a significant loss for the family. The bodies of the buffaloes have been taken to the animal hospital, and an investigation is currently ongoing. It is crucial for the companies installing these solar panels to be cautious; their negligence has resulted in the loss of two lives.”

A local resident expressed, “The NGOs pressured us to set up the solar power system, and now we’ve lost our two buffaloes. I’m skeptical that we’ll get any compensation from the authorities. It’s great to become a village that generates its own power, but at what price? The government needs to improve safety measures around the solar plant installations.”

Garade mentioned that the local police are looking into the incident, and he assured that prompt action will be taken.
