Tragic news: Pune Cop Anna Gunjal found dead near Tiger Point in Lonavla; suicide suspected
Pune: Anna Gunjal, a 35-year-old police sub-inspector stationed at the Khadki police station, reportedly took his own life by hanging from a tree at Shivling Point, close to the well-known Tiger Point in Lonavla, which is approximately 75 kilometers from the city.
Authorities have not been able to determine the reason for his drastic action and stated that no suicide note was found with him. The discovery was made when a local resident spotted the body hanging and alerted the police control room on Friday morning. Police inspector Kishor Dhumal from the Lonavla rural police mentioned that Gunjal had parked his SUV about 100 meters into the forest near Tiger Point before taking his life. They believe the body had been there for around two days. No documents or suicide note were located at the scene.
Gunjal’s cellphone, diary, and other personal items were found in his vehicle and will be thoroughly examined. After a post-mortem, his remains will be returned to his family. He had been assigned to the police station for the past two years and had not reported for duty since February 3, with his cellphone being unreachable, according to a police official. The Khadki police were preparing to file a missing person report on Friday. Initial information suggests that his decision may have been influenced by family issues. Gunjal was originally from a village in the Sangamner tehsil of the Ahilyanagar district, but the police did not disclose any details regarding his family.
The incident has really shaken up the Pune police department, and they are working hard to piece together what led to the sub-inspector’s tragic decision. We’ll have to wait for further updates once the investigation is complete.
It’s sad to hear about such incidents. Last year in April, a police constable on night duty took his own life by shooting himself at the Lohiya Nagar police work station in Pune.
