In a heart-wrenching incident near Wagholi Police Station in Pune, three individuals sleeping on a footpath were crushed to death by a dumper late Sunday night. The deceased include a 22-year-old man, a one-year-old girl, and a two-year-old boy. The dumper driver, identified as Gajanan Shankar Totre, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and has been arrested. Six others injured in the accident are currently battling for survival.

The victims, migrant workers from Amravati, had come to Pune in search of employment. The tragedy has sparked outrage and raised questions about the safety and welfare of the economically disadvantaged.

Rohit Pawar, MLA from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his anguish. “Do the poor have no right to live? If they had jobs in Amravati, this incident might not have occurred,” he stated. Pawar criticized the government for failing to provide adequate employment opportunities and urged immediate action to address such systemic issues.

Pawar also extended condolences to the bereaved families and appealed to the government to ensure proper compensation for the victims. The accident has drawn widespread attention to the plight of migrant workers and the urgent need for stricter regulations to prevent such tragedies.
