Train Travel to Get Safer and Smarter: Register Complaints Instantly via WhatsApp, New Rules from May 1
Indian Railways Boosts Passenger Safety and Service with Instant WhatsApp Complaint System
Train travel in India is about to become safer and more passenger-centric, thanks to a new initiative by Indian Railways. The national transporter is introducing a dedicated WhatsApp complaint system designed to provide real-time support and quick redressal of passenger grievances.
WhatsApp Complaints: Instant Support at Your Fingertips
Set to launch within a week, this new WhatsApp-based platform will allow passengers to report issues such as safety concerns, unclean coaches, or other travel-related inconveniences directly from their smartphones. The process is simple: send a message to the designated WhatsApp number, and an AI-powered chatbot will guide users through the complaint submission. Once the information is collected, a railway official will follow up with a phone call to resolve the issue swiftly. All further updates will continue via the same WhatsApp conversation, ensuring transparency and ease of communication.
This digital approach marks a major shift from the traditional complaint process, eliminating the need to search for on-ground staff or stand in long queues. Passengers will now have immediate access to help — anytime, anywhere.
New Travel Rule from May 1: No Sleeper or AC Travel for Waitlisted Passengers
Alongside digital enhancements, Indian Railways is also tightening travel regulations. Starting May 1, passengers with waitlisted tickets will no longer be permitted to board Sleeper or AC coaches. Instead, they must travel in General class coaches only.
This rule has been introduced following complaints about overcrowding and seat disputes caused by waitlisted passengers occupying reserved berths. The new measure aims to protect the comfort and rights of confirmed ticket holders, ensuring a smoother and more organized travel experience.
Together, these steps reflect Indian Railways’ commitment to improving service quality, enhancing safety, and ensuring greater accountability in train travel.
