Pune: Like every year, everyone is ready to celebrate the festival of Dahi Handi in an atmosphere of great enthusiasm across the country.

Especially in Maharashtra state, Govinda squads have started preparations to celebrate this festival. For the past few years, along with the men, women teams have also been participating in various cities. Now, transgenders will also participate in this festival.

As per information, as many as four teams of 100 members with the participation of transgenders have been formed in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad and they have also started thorough practice. Each team will have 25 transgender members.

Dahi Handi will be broken on the ground of Gogte Prashala in Narayan Peth, Pune on September 7 at 6 pm. A special dahi handi for transgenders has also been organized through the trustees of ‘Deepstambh’ and city president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Deepak Mankar, social workers Sharvari Gawande and Shiv Pratap Sanstha.

Deepak Mankar, NCP Pune city president, expressed that every one has equal right to live and so do transgenders. Today, transgenders are seen working in various fields. This is a good initiative and society should accept them as their family members. Against this backdrop, they decided to form the Govinda team of transgenders for the first time this year and the work has received a good response. Nearly 100 transgenders have gathered and now all are ready to break Handi on September 7. This initiative will help in sending a positive message to society of inclusiveness.
