Two more test positive for Zika virus cases reported in Pune

Two more people have tested positive for Zika in Pune, bringing the total cases to 11. The new cases include a 42-year-old woman from Karvenagar and a 22-year-old man from Kharadi. Both cases are confirmed by the National Institute of Virology.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started surveillance and containment in Kharadi and Karvenagar areas. The increase in the number of cases of Zika virus outbreak has raised concerns across Puneites. As a result, PCMC has warned civilians to take caution. The Zika virus cases are increasing day by day and urgent treatment and checks are being put in place by PCMC and containment in specially these two areas.
As per information, the virus is spread by Aedes mosquitoes, with most infections being mild or asymptomatic.
Dr Rajesh Dighe, assistant health officer, PMC, said, “The male resides in Kharadi which comes under the jurisdiction of the Yerawada- Ahmednagar Road ward office. The respective ward officials have been alerted to conduct preventive measures that will be implemented in and around his residence,” he said.
80% of people infected with the Zika virus show mild symptoms such as
fever, rashes, conjunctivitis, body aches, and joint pains. However, the symptoms are severe. Zika virus in pregnant women can cause congenital microcephaly, Guillain-Barre syndrome and other neurological complications, said officials
