Uber introduced ‘Uber Moto Women,’ a pioneering service in Bengaluru that provides bike rides exclusively for women.

On Thursday, Uber launched ‘Uber Moto Women,’ an innovative service in the city offering bike rides solely for women.

“Developed based on feedback from women riders and drivers, Uber Moto Women offers a safe, affordable, and convenient commute option for women who prefer to ride with female drivers,” says a statement by Uber.

Uber announced that its on-demand two-wheeler service links female riders with female drivers, aiming to enhance safety and mobility for women while providing female drivers with flexible earning options.

“With Uber Moto Women, we’re not just offering a safer and more convenient ride option for women, but also empowering female drivers with the opportunity to earn flexibly in one of India’s fastest-growing mobility segments. Bengaluru has always been a pioneer in embracing innovation, and we’re proud to launch this service here to set a new benchmark for inclusive urban mobility,” says Abhishek Padhye, Head of Regional Business Operations, Uber India and South Asia.

Uber Moto Women was launched on Thursday in all key areas of Bengaluru. Riders now have the option to share their trip information with up to five trusted contacts for real-time tracking, ensuring that phone numbers and drop-off locations remain anonymous to safeguard user privacy.

The low involvement of women in India’s ride-hailing sector presents an opportunity for ‘Uber Moto Women’ to inspire more females to take up driving.

“Flexible working hours, short-distance trips, and easy navigation will make it easier for more women drivers to join the platform. Offering complete flexibility, ‘Uber Moto Women’ drivers also have the option to turn off the female-only rider setting and accept all rides whenever they choose,” adds Uber.

Uber’s RideCheck safety feature actively tracks unusual activities like extended stops, mid-journey drop-offs, or unexpected route changes, ensuring assistance is available when necessary. Additionally, female riders and drivers can utilize Uber’s 24/7 Safety Helpline, which prioritizes support for women in times of need.
