The University Grants Commission (UGC) has unveiled a draft of revised regulations aimed at enhancing the qualifications and professional standards of teachers and academic staff in universities and colleges. The draft, titled “UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment and Promotion of Teachers and Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations 2025,” was officially launched by Hon’ble Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.

The proposed regulations encompass several critical areas, including cadre ratio, probation periods, confirmation processes, leave policies, teaching days, academic research, administrative commitments, seniority, and a code of professional ethics. These revisions build upon the UGC Regulations 2018, with an aim to further uplift academic and institutional standards.
