The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it easier and more affordable to update the photograph on your Aadhaar card. Citizens can now replace their old or unsatisfactory Aadhaar photo by paying a fee of just ₹100.

No Online Photo Update Option

The photo update can only be done in person at an Aadhaar Enrolment or Correction Centre. Online services for changing the photograph are not available, as UIDAI captures a live image using its official camera system.

Charges and Timeline

  • Fee: ₹100 (GST may apply), payable at the service centre
  • Processing time: Around 30 days, though it can take up to 90 days in rare cases

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Visit the official UIDAI website to locate your nearest Aadhaar service centre.
  2. Fill out the “Enrolment/Correction Form” and submit it at the centre.
  3. Complete biometric verification (fingerprint or iris scan).
  4. Have your new photograph clicked live at the centre.
  5. Pay ₹100 and collect your Update Request Number (URN) to track the status.
  6. Once processed, download the updated e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI website or the mAadhaar app.

Additional Details

  • There is no limit on how many times you can update your Aadhaar photo, but the ₹100 fee applies each time.
  • For children, biometric updates at ages 5–7 and 15–17 are free; otherwise, the standard charge applies.

This move is part of UIDAI’s effort to make Aadhaar updates more convenient, transparent, and user-friendly.
