Vande Bharat Express Now Offers Onboard Snack Trolleys with Chips, Biscuits, and Cold Drinks for Passengers
Passengers traveling on the Vande Bharat Express now have more food options during their journey. Starting with the Gorakhpur–Ayodhya–Lucknow–Prayagraj route, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced vendor trolleys offering chips, biscuits, cold drinks, and other packaged food items. This is in addition to the usual pre-booked meals. The initiative, approved by the Railway Board, aims to enhance passenger comfort and convenience.
New Service Expanding to All Vande Bharat Trains
Currently, passengers must pre-book meals while purchasing their tickets. Those who don’t pre-book are often limited to tea, coffee, or instant snacks. To address this, IRCTC is expanding the packaged food service beyond the Gorakhpur–Prayagraj route, aiming to implement it across all Vande Bharat trains nationwide.
More Convenience for Passengers
Earlier, passengers who hadn’t pre-ordered meals could only request basic snacks. Now, with the Railway Board’s approval, a wider selection of packaged and disposable (PAD) food items will be available for purchase during the journey. This step aligns with Indian Railways’ commitment to improving the travel experience on Vande Bharat trains.
New Policy for Onboard Food Purchases
The Railway Board has introduced a new catering policy, allowing passengers to buy food onboard, even if they didn’t pre-book meals. A circular sent to IRCTC states that the policy is meant to offer more choices and ensure adequate catering facilities for all passengers. IRCTC is now authorized to sell and serve food items to both pre-booked and non-pre-booked passengers on all Vande Bharat trains.
This initiative ensures a more comfortable and flexible travel experience, making Vande Bharat journeys even more passenger-friendly.
