Vande Bharat Express Takes Wrong Route, Ends Up in Kalyan Instead of Goa
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal (CSMT)-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express train did not follow its planned route. Initially, it was supposed to go to Madgaon, but a technical issue at Diva station in Thane district, Maharashtra, caused it to divert. This diversion resulted in a 90-minute delay for the journey to Goa. Instead of continuing towards Panvel station on the Diva-Panvel railway route, which is typically used by trains bound for Konkan, the express train redirected towards Kalyan at 6:10 am. This incident also led to delays in local train services on the Central Railway in Mumbai.
According to Swapnil Neela, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, this happened because of an issue with the signaling and telecommunication system at point number 103 between the Down Fast Line and the Fifth Line at Diva Junction. Normally, trains from Diva Junction heading towards Konkan follow the route to Panvel station. However, this train deviated from its planned route and reached Kalyan station. After that, it was reversed to Diva Junction and continued its journey to Madgaon via the Diva-Panvel route. Swapnil Neela mentioned that the train was halted at Diva Junction for approximately 35 minutes, from 6:10 am to 6:45 am, before it proceeded to Kalyan.
Swapnil Neela, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, mentioned, “The train arrived at platform six of Kalyan station at approximately 7:04 pm using the fifth line. It was then taken back to Diva station through the sixth line at 7:13 pm.” The CSMT-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express, which started operating in June 2023, leaves Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal in Mumbai at 5:25 am and reaches Madgaon, Goa at 1:10 pm on the same day. Railway officials noted that such occurrences are quite uncommon with the Mumbai Suburban Automatic Signaling System.
