PUNE: Responding to the input of local public representatives and the assessment conducted by Sub-Divisional Officer Bhor, District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh has granted approval for the reopening of the Varandha Ghat along the Bhor-Mahad road. This decision, allowing all vehicles to traverse the route, will come into effect from August 25.

The decision-making process was significantly influenced by the recommendations of community leaders and the comprehensive report submitted by the sub-divisional officer in Bhor. This collaborative effort resulted in the District Collector’s authorization to resume public use of the Varandha Ghat.

Sources reveal that the decision to reopen the ghat was propelled by the absence of any imminent warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) pertaining to heavy rainfall. This marks a shift from the prior situation when the Varandha Ghat remained closed until September 30 due to the potential safety hazards stemming from the consistent red and orange alerts issued by the IMD, signaling the likelihood of intense and recurring heavy rainfall.
