Despite an increase in arrivals of fruits and vegetables from within and outside Maharashtra, prices of select items have risen in the Gultekdi market yard due to high demand. Tomatoes, cabbage, capsicum, peas, and leafy vegetables have seen a price surge.
The market received 90-100 truckloads of fruits and vegetables on Sunday. Key arrivals included green chillies from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh; cabbage from Karnataka and Gujarat; pavata from Karnataka; carrots from Indore; and garlic from the central region.
According to Vilas Bhujbal, a senior dealer, other notable arrivals included 50-60 sacks of peas, 10-12 trucks of red pumpkin, 70-75 trucks of onions, and 55-60 trucks of potatoes from Indore, Agra, and local areas.
Amaranth Prices Soar During Navratri
The prices of coriander, saffron, and amaranth have increased compared to last week, driven by Navratri fasting demand. In contrast, cowpea prices have dropped. Traders reported stable prices for fenugreek, shepu, spring onion, mint,, chuka, and spinach.
In the wholesale market, approximately half a lakh judi (bunhc) of coriander and 70 thousand judi of fenugreek were received on Sunday.
Fruit Prices Rise Due to Festive Demand
Fruit prices have also increased due to Navratri fasting. Kalingad, melon, papaya, and pomegranate prices have risen. However, rates of cilantro, pineapple, chickpea, orange, guava, and lemon remain stable. The fruit market received 30-40 tons of oranges.
Market yard officials and traders expect prices to stabilize post-Navratri, as supply and demand balance out.
