Video: Bengaluru Woman Reveals Zepto Charges iPhone Users More Than Android Shoppers
People have really crossed their limits just to get that expensive iPhone, and now it’s making a difference in the grocery aisle. It’s like Android users are shopping in a bargain bin while iPhone users are splurging like they’re at a luxury boutique. Who would have thought that selecting a phone could significantly impact your grocery expenses?
Well, a woman from Bengaluru has discovered new evidence showing that quick-commerce platforms use different pricing strategies for Apple and Android users. Instagram user Pooja Chhabda ran a simple test on Zepto and found that the platform charges iPhone users over twice as much for the same product compared to Android users.
Chhabda used both an iPhone and an Android device to check prices on Zepto. She found that 500 grams of grapes cost ₹65 on the Android phone, while the same quantity was priced at ₹146 for iPhone users.
This wasn’t an isolated case; Chhabda also noted that capsicum was priced at ₹37 on the Android device but jumped to ₹69 on her iPhone.
She was taken aback by the “huge difference” and encouraged her followers to see if they were also being charged more when using an iPhone.
The difference in pricing between Apple and Android devices is often linked to the perceived characteristics of their user bases. E-commerce sites might believe that iPhone users have greater disposable incomes, making them more inclined to spend more.
This sentiment was echoed by viewers in the comments section.
“One theory is that if you can afford to pay significantly more for similar features found on some Android devices, then you must be open to paying extra for everything else,” commented one user on Instagram.
“It’s a serious concern, and if this trend continues, I will definitely reconsider my choice of sticking with the iPhone,” another user expressed.
“It’s not really about iPhone versus Android; it’s more about budget phones versus premium ones. The differences will be evident not just in pricing, but also in aspects like availability and delivery times,” one user suggested.
One user joked,“ You wanted an iphone so you have to pay Apple’s price.”
One user denied believing it and said, “Can’t trust this reel ’cause it’s on social media.”
