Pune: A fresh incident of violence by the notorious Koyta Gang has sent shockwaves through Pune once again. Around 8 to 10 armed men wreaked havoc in the Upper Indiranagar area of Bibwewadi in the early hours of Friday. The gang, wielding sickles and sharp weapons, vandalised vehicles and created panic among residents.
According to police reports, the gang stormed the residential locality around midnight, brandishin g naked blades and shouting obscenities. In the process, they assaulted one individual and damaged multiple parked vehicles. The horrifying scene was captured by locals on mobile cameras, further escalating fears in the community.
This latest episode comes just days after a daylight attack in Pune’s Dattawadi area, where a youth was chased and assaulted with a sickle by a gang—an act that was also caught on CCTV footage. In that case too, the attackers were seen running with weapons in hand in broad daylight.

Following the Upper Indiranagar incident, Bibwewadi Police acted swiftly, registering an FIR against the accused and arresting eight suspects within hours. The weapons recovered include sickles, wooden sticks, and other deadly arms.
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack and the reason for assaulting the gang member’s acquaintance. The Bibwewadi police are conducting a detailed inquiry to uncover whether this was a premeditated act or part of an ongoing gang rivalry.
The recurrence of such gang violence in Pune raises serious concerns over public safety, especially in densely populated residential areas.
