Video | Plane with Over 100 Onboard Crashes Near Kazakhstan’s Aktau Airport, Several Feared Dead
A plane carrying over 100 people crashed near Kazakhstan’s Aktau airport on Wednesday, with many feared dead. The Azerbaijan Airlines flight, which was en route from Baku to Grozny, Russia, was forced to make an emergency landing after being rerouted due to fog. The plane, an Embraer 190, had 105 passengers and five crew members on board.

According to Kazakhstan’s health ministry, six survivors were found after the crash. Russian news agencies reported that the flight, J2-8243, was descending rapidly before it crashed and erupted into flames. Video footage shows plumes of smoke rising from the crash site. The airline confirmed the emergency landing occurred about three kilometers from Aktau.
In a statement, Azerbaijan Airlines said, “The flight made an emergency landing approximately three kilometers from the city of Aktau. Further information will be provided to the public soon.”
